What is a CTET Certificate?
The CTET Certificate is regarded as the minimal requirement for a government teaching position. Once you get this credential, you may apply for open positions at various schools. However, just passing the CTET exam does not ensure a candidate's employment as a teacher. It is only one of the qualifications he or she must have in order to be employed as a teacher. The CTET certificate is issued only to CTET-qualified candidates and must be shown at the time of appointment.
CTET Applicability: Post-Qualification Selection Process
Teachers must pass the CTET or TET examination to teach classes 1–8 in CBSE-affiliated schools, according to the CBSE Affiliation Bye-Laws. Candidates can apply for school recruitment after clearing the CTET or TET test. Consider the following categories of schools where you can apply for teacher recruitment:
CTET-qualified candidates can apply for recruitment as Primary Teachers (Class 1 to 8) in: |
(i) Schools affiliated under the Central Government such as KVS, NVS, Central Tibetan Schools, and others. |
(ii) Schools under the administrative control of Union Territories such as Delhi, Chandigarh, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep. |
(iii) Private schools who consider and require the CTET qualification |
(iv) Schools owned by State Governments and local bodies: These schools will accept CTET qualified candidates only if they have not conducted their state TET exam.
Note: State Government-schools need to consider only those candidates who have qualified state TET exam. |

CTET Salary and Payscale
You should be aware that the average wage scale for primary teachers teaching classes I to V is roughly Rs 1.5 lakh per year, while the average income scale for secondary teachers is approximately Rs. 2, 30,000 per year.
Importance of CTET Certificate
- A CTET credential is required to be considered for a central government teaching position.
- Candidates with CTET certificates are eligible to apply for any Central/State Government Teaching posts like KVS, NVS, and DSSSB, among others.
- Candidates who do not have a CTET certificate are not eligible to apply for Central Government teaching positions.
- Candidates with CTET certifications can apply for state government teaching jobs.
- CTET qualified applicants are also given precedence for teacher recruitment at private institutes.
- In the recruitment of Regular/Contractual teachers, several Union areas solely wanted CTET trained teachers.
- There is a very strong probability of earning a government teaching job after passing the CTET exams.

Can I apply for CTET without B Ed?
No, a B. Ed. is not required to apply for the CTET test. However, there is a criterion that allows students who have finished graduation with at least 50% marks and a BEd degree to sit for the CTET test.
Can 12th pass apply for CTET?
Yes, If you want to be a primary school teacher, you must have a 12th-grade diploma with a minimum of 45%. If you wish to apply for the position of Elementary Teacher, you must have graduated with a 45% grade point average and a 12th-grade pass with a 50% grade point average.
Why is CTET important?
The CTET Certificate is the bare minimum for a central government teaching position; it is like an extra bonus to your resume. Candidates with the CTET Certificate are eligible to apply for any Central Government Teaching posts such as KVS, NVS Army Teacher, ERDO, and so on.
Is CTET conducted every year?
The national Ministry of Human Resource Development assigned the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) to the CBSE, Delhi, which administers the CTET twice a year. The CTET is administered in 20 Indian languages. Approximately 14 lakh people apply to take the test.
Can I give CTET exam twice?
There are no limitations on the number of attempts; applicants who aspire to get a high score in the CTET examination may try the exam as many times as they wish. The CTET certificate will now be valid for life.
