Format of an Informal letter

Informal Letter Format - Informal letters have no established format. However, there is a broad pattern and some norms that most people adhere to. We'll look at this pattern as well as some pointers on how to compose effective and appealing informal letters. These can be used as guidelines while writing a letter; they are not strict restrictions. Let's get started.

Format of an Informal Letter: Address

The first thing you should put is your address, which is the writer's address (essentially, the sender's address). We normally write the address at the very top of the left-hand side of the page. The address must be correct and comprehensive.
Even when communicating with close friends or relatives, the address must be included so that they can respond quickly. If the letter's receiver is in another country, don't forget to include your own nation in the address.

Informal Letter Format: Date

The date is written directly below the address. This gives the reader a timestamp for when the informal letter was written. He will be able to relate to the contents of the letter better after that. The date should preferably be in extended form.

Informal Letter Format: Greeting

Now that you know who you're writing to, you can use a more casual greeting. If it's a buddy or someone your age, call them by their first name, such as "Dear Alex."
If you're writing to a relative, such as your mother/father/aunt/uncle, you can address them as such, such as "Dear Mom." If you're writing to a senior citizen or someone you admire, you can address them as Mr. or Mrs. If you were writing a celebratory letter to your instructor, for example, you could address it as "Dear Mrs. Alex."

Informal Letter Format - Introductory Paragraph

Now it's time to start composing the real letter. The tone of the letter is established in the first paragraph. You could start by inquiring about the recipient's health. You might also state that you hope they receive the letter in good health and spirits. The first line of an informal letter should be lighthearted and welcoming. It does not need to be as professional and direct as business letters.

Format of Informal Letter: Body of the Letter

The tone of the letter should be welcoming throughout. However, depending on who you're writing to, you'll need to change the terminology and terminology. You can be incredibly casual and even flippant when you're with a friend. When writing to an elderly relative, though, you must be respectful and polite.
Remember how you speak to the person in a conversation to help you define the tone of your letter. Then, in the letter, use the same phrasing and sentiments.

Informal Letter Format: Conclusion

Sum up the purpose for writing the letter in the concluding paragraph, i.e. summarise the letter. Give the reader a heartfelt and thoughtful farewell. Also, don't forget to invite the reader to respond to your letter by writing back. It demonstrates a desire to continue the dialogue.

Signature

There is no one way to sign off informal letters. Since they do not follow a strict format, you may sign off as you please. Some commonly used phrases are
  • Lots of Love
  • Best,
  • Best Wishes,
  • Kind Regards,
  • Kindly,
Choose the one that is most appropriate for the occasion, and then sign your name beneath the greeting.
