Important Question from chapter 1 :Bricks, Beads and Bones
Q-Would you agree that the drainage system in Harappan cities indicates town planning? Give reasons for your answer.
A- Yes, the drainage system in Harappan cities, which suggests town planning, is something I agree with. In support of my answer, I can offer the following arguments.
The drainage system required planning before it could be implemented. It appears that drainages were carried out initially, followed by the construction of dwellings alongside the drains. Every home was required to have at least one wall along a street that allowed domestic waste water to drain into the public sewers. Roads and streets in the lower town were laid out in an approximation grid form, connecting at right angles, according to the designs.
From the beginning, it appears that human habitation was planned. On the platforms, the city was confined to a specific region.
The ratio of sun dried or baked bricks was typical. Bricks were four times the length and twice the width of the height, respectively. The Harappan Civilisation used these bricks in all of their settlements.
