Prelims is a qualifying stage. Candidates who clear prelims will be eligible to write the main examination. The UK Lower PCS Syllabus for prelims is mentioned below:Part -1: General Studies |
General Science and Knowledge of Computer Operation: Questions on General Science and Computer operation will cover general understating and application of science and Computers including matters of day to day observation and experience as may be expected from an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific or computer discipline. History of India and Indian National Movement: Questions on history of India and Indian National Movement will be based on broad understanding of ancient, mediaeval and modern India’s political, social, economic, and cultural aspects and India’s Freedom movement, growth of nationalism and attainment of Independence. Indian polity and Economy: Questions on Indian polity and economy will be based on Indian polity, Constitution, Panchayati raj and Community development, broad features of Indian economy and planning. Geography and Demography of India: Questions will be based on a broad understanding of geographical, ecological and socio-economic aspects and demography of India. Current Events: Questions will be based on important Uttarakhand State, National and International current events including games. |
Part -2: General Aptitude Test | General Intelligence: The questions on general intelligence will cover, both, verbal and non-verbal types, including questions on analogies, similarities, differences, space visualization, problem-solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification and arithmetical number series. The test will also include questions designed to test the candidate’s abilitiy to deal with abstract ideas, symbols and their relationships, arithmetical computations and other analytical functions. |

UK Lower PSC Main Examination (Descriptive Type)

Current events of International, National and State Importance | It will cover events of national importance like coalition government system, economic liberalization, economic recession, regional extremism and separatist movements – Naxalism; Maoism and Salwa judum; national security, internal security, communal harmony, and international perspectives like- nuclear policy issues and conflicts; impact of globalization on the socio-economic conditions of developing countries and global food crisis. |
Sports and Games: | Questions based on important sports, games and tournaments, awards and personalities of the world, India and Uttarakhand will be asked. |
History of India: | History of India will cover a broad understanding of ancient, mediaeval and modern India’s political, socio-economic and cultural aspects; Indian freedom movement, growth of nationalism and attainment of Independence. |
Indian polity and Economy: | The questions will cover Indian polity, Panchayati raj and Community development, broad features of Indian economy and planning. |

UK Lower PSC Exam Pattern
The exam consists of three stages Prelims, Mains and Interview round. The prelims examination is objective type while mains is descriptive type. The detailed exam pattern is given below:
UKPSC Lower PCS Prelims Exam
- The Prelims Examination is of objective format.
- There is one paper that tests General Studies and General Aptitude.
- The maximum number of possible marks are 150 marks.
- The total time allotted to the exam is 2 hours.
- The marks obtained by qualified candidates in the preliminary exam will not be counted for their final selection.

UKPSC Lower PCS Mains Exam Pattern
- The Main examination will consist of 2 two papers, i.e. General Studies and Essay & Drafting.
- The nature of the paper is Subjective/ Descriptive
- The maximum number of possible marks are 400 marks.
- Candidates need to obtain a minimum of 35% marks in Essay and Drafting papers.
- Each question of the general studies paper carries 10 marks.
- The total time allotted for both the papers is 6 hours.

Candidates securing the minimum qualifying marks move to the final round of the recruitment process i.e. Interview/ Personality test.
UKPSC Lower PSC Interview
Candidates who clear the mains stage have to appear for the interview round conducted by the panel of experts. It carries a maximum of 50 marks. Candidates getting the minimum qualifying marks in both the mains examination and interview are selected for their desired posts.
