UPSC CAPF (AC) Recruitment 2020: Notification, Syllabus, Exam Pattern & Result

The notifications for the much awaited Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) Exam 2020 are out! This exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)  every year and you can get yourself registered by visiting UPSC’s official website upsconline.nic.in .The last day to apply online is 7th September, 2020.  CAPF is a competitive exam that is annually conducted to recruit candidates for the forces like:
  • Border Security Force (BSF)
  • Central Industry  Security Force (CISF)
  • Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)
  • Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)
  • Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and many others.

The CAPF paper is conducted in two languages i.e. English and Hindi. So, you need to worry if you are not that good in English as you can opt for the Hindi paper. But before applying for this national level exam, make sure you fulfil all the eligibility criteria like age limit should be between 20 to 25 years to apply for this exam, etc. You can check out all these criteria on UPSC’s website.

The UPSC CAPF 2020 written exam will be conducted on 20th December, 2020 in two sessions across the nation at designated UPSC exam centres. The results for the same will be announced hopefully in February 2021. After which the selected candidates will be called for their physical or medical checkups in March, 2021. This check up is conducted by an authority designated by the UPSC. If you are able to clear the medical test you will then become eligible to appear for the Personality/Interview test which will be conducted in the month of May in 2021. The final list of selected candidates will be out by June next year. It is quite a long process but once you are selected there’s no looking back due to immense number of opportunities available.

What are you waiting for? Only few months left until you will have to appear for your written exam. The CAPF written exam pattern comprises of 2 papers:
  • General Mental Ability and General Science
    This paper carries maximum 250 marks and is of 2 hours (usually 10:00 A.M to 12:00 PM). It is further subdivided into the following sections:
  1. General Mental Ability: This section will test candidates for their logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude, numerical ability, and data interpretation.
  2. General Science: Under it, candidates will have to showcase their general awareness knowledge, comprehension and appreciation of scientific phenomena and scientific temper. The other topics you will need to study include Information Technology, Biotechnology and Environmental Science.
    In order to ace this section it is advisable that candidates read the science & technology columns of the newspaper on a regular basis.
  3. Current Events of National and International Importance:  Current affairs are the most important section of almost every competitive exam. If you want to score well in this exam you should have knowledge on all the national as well as international events in the fields of Culture, Music, Arts, Literature, Industry, Business, Globalisation, Governance, Sports, Societal and Developmental Issues.
  4. Indian Polity and Economy:  For this section focus more on topics like Indian political system, Economic development in India, Human rights & its indicators, Constitution of India, Regional and international security issues, Social systems and public administration
  5. Indian History: In this section, candidates will be asked questions on topics related to growth of nationalism in India and freedom movement, Panchayati Raj, Exploration and Discovery, Co-operatives and Community Development, Indian History, Culture and Civilisation, Freedom Movement in India, Elementary knowledge of Five Year Plans of India, Indian Constitution and Administration, Renaissance, Forces shaping the Modern India.
  6. Indian and World Geography:  Good command on geography can provide you an edge over your competitors.
    To prepare well for this section, try to understand in detail the concepts related to Earthquakes and Volcanoes, Latitudes and Longitudes,Concept of time, International Date Line, Origin of Earth, Ocean Currents and Tides, Humidity, Condensation and Precipitation, Movements of Earth and their effects, Rocks and their classification Weathering, Atmosphere and its composition, Temperature and Atmospheric Pressure, Cyclones and Anti-cyclones, Types of Climate, Planetary Winds, Major Natural regions of the World, Regional Geography of India, Imports and Exports of India, Mineral and Power resources, etc.
  • General Studies, Essay and Comprehension
    This paper will not only test a candidate’s view about the world but also his comprehension abilities. You will get 3 hours to attempt this paper and it will carry 200 marks. The table given below shows the UPSC CAPF syllabus and division of marks for this paper:
