- The primary responsibility of the Armed Forces is to defend the territorial integrity of the nation. For this purpose, Armed Forces should always be prepared for war. Armed Forces personnel undergo rigorous training in preparation for war. Armed Forces also assist civil authorities if required whenever the need arises like in the case of disasters.
- The Armed Forces need personnel with strong mental and physical fitness to perform these jobs. Additionally, these individuals must be able to handle the demanding stress and strain of performing military activities in difficult terrain, an unfavourable climate, including the sea and the air, in distant locations, and in harsh conditions without access to medical services.

CDS Selection Process 2023
All the eligible candidates willing to appear in the examination will have to go through three stages of the selection process in total, that is:Stage 1: Candidates will have to appear for a written examination.
Stage 2: Candidates who cleared the written examination will be called for an Interview process.
Stage 3: Candidates who successfully clear both stages will be called for a Medical Examination and then those who will clear this process will go for a Document verification round.
To be acceptable, candidates should secure the minimum qualifying marks separately in (i) written examination and (ii) SSB test as fixed by the Commission and Service Selection Board respectively at their discretion. The candidates will be placed in the order of merit on the basis of the total marks secured by them in the written examination and in the SSB tests.

Stage 1: Written Examination
- For Admission to the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Air Force Academy: Candidates will have to attempt three objective-type questions in the written exam paper for admission to IMA, INA, and IAF. The three papers will contain questions from English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics. Each exam paper will be of 2 hours and 100 marks. It means that the first stage is of 300 marks in total.
- The question papers (Test Booklets) of General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics will be set bilingually in Hindi as well as English.
For admission to OTA, candidates have to attempt two objective-type papers one is English and the other is General Knowledge. Each exam paper is of 2 hours and 100 marks. It means that the first stage is of 200 marks in total.

Stage 2: Interview
The maximum marks allotted to the interviews will be 300, 300, 300, and 200 each for admission to the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Officers’ Training Academy respectively. You must also know what are the OLQ For SSB Interview.Stage 3: Medical Standards
A candidate must be in good physical and mental health, free from any sickness, syndrome, or impairment that could hinder their ability to execute military responsibilities effectively in any terrain, climate, or season, including on land, at sea, or in isolated locations without access to medical care.
