Mission Based on the idea that institutionalizing children should only be used as a last resort, Vatsalya advocates for family-based non-institutional care of children in challenging situations.

Components of the Program:

Mission Vatsalya's components include strengthening service delivery systems, upgrading institutional care and services, promoting non-institutional community-based care, providing emergency outreach services, and training and capacity building.

To execute the Scheme, all the States and UTs have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry. According to the established cost-sharing ratio between the Center and State/UT Governments, Mission Vatsalya will be undertaken as a centrally supported initiative.
