Members of Parliament or MPs represent the voters in the Parliament, they are members of the different parties and are elected by the voters. .our parliament is bicameral Members of Lok Sabha are called Members of Parliament whereas members of Rajya Sabha are called MLAs.Although both the houses are equal, this lok sabha is known as the Upper House, and Rajya Sabha is known as the Lower House. The Rajya sabha is the house of people in the upper house of the union parliament it represents the people of India the member of lok sabha are directly elected by the people of India .it has a very powerful house.

Lok Sabha

The maximum strength of lok sabha provided by the constitution is 552. out of this 530 members represent the state and 20 members represent the union territories. two members of the Anglo Indian community are nominated by the president if he/she thinks that the community is not adequately represented in the house.


Qualification for the membership

Article 84 of the Indian constitution set the qualification for being a member of lok sabha these are ….
  • He/ she should be a citizen of India.
  • He/she so does not be less than 25 years of age.
  • He /she should not hold any office of profit under the union or state government.
  • He/ she should not be a convict a confirmed debtor or otherwise disqualified by any law.
  • He/ she should be of sound mind.
  • He/she should have his name on the electoral rolls in any part of the country.
  • He/she should possess such other qualifications as may be prescribed by any law made by the parliament.


Responsibilities of Loksabha members

  • One of the most important functions of Lok Sabha is the selection of the executive. An executive is a group of people working together to enforce laws passed by parliament.
  • Passing laws
  • Critical analysis of the performance of the ruling party
  • Approve expenditures proposed by the government
  • To project the opinions of people in their constituencies
  • Another special power includes the enactment of laws regarding services at the state or national level


Rajya Sabha

The Rajya sabha the council of state is the upper house of the union parliament it represents the federation of states of India. It is mentioned that here it cannot be dissolved like the lok sabha the term of each member of the Rajya Sabha is 6 years third of the member retires after every second year and elections are held for the vacant seats. The maximum strength of the Rajya Sabha member is 250 out of the 12 members nominated by the president and 238 members are elected representatives of the states.
 

Qualifications for membership in Rajya sabha

In order to qualify for the membership of the Rajya sabha an individual should possess certain qualifications are given below
  • He/ she must be a citizen of India.
  • He/ she must be less than 30 years of age
  • He /she should be a resident of the state from which he is seeking election for a minimum of 6 months.
  • He /she must not hold any office of profit under the union and State Government
  • He/ she should not be insane or bankrupt

 
Responsibility of the Rajya Sabha members

The responsibilities of the Rajya sabha members are given below…..
  • Passing laws  for Lock Samba
  • Make sure the ruling party is doing its job well
  • Represent the opinions of people in their constituencies in front of Lock Samba
  • Approve the revenues put in front of the government (lok sabha).

  • Make a law with respect to any subject in the State List.
  • Making laws to create services at a national level.


Salary of the parliament members

The salary is an announcement by the member of the parliament and ministers are decided by the parliament.
The salary of an MP in Rajya Sabha or Lok Sabha is about Rs 2,00,000. Plus other allowances and privileges.  The previous year due to COVID -19, the Order of Salaries, Allowances, and Pensions of Members of Parliament reduced the alternate allowance of Members of Parliament by 30% for a period of one year.
