At all levels, from Junior Scale to HAG+, the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) is unifying eight current services of Indian Railways (Higher Administrative Grade). Alternative Mechanism, on the other hand, was to decide on the methods for unification and inter seniority assignment. For this, the Ministry of Railways and the Department of Public Transportation collaborated to develop the necessary formula before it was adopted by the Alternative Mechanism, assuring that no one would be disadvantaged.27 GM positions have been promoted to pinnacle level. It would be assured that eligible officers from all former services are appointed to the top-level position of GM. Only officials of the IRMS (comprising eight services) will be eligible to serve as Functional Members and Chairman/CEO of the Railway Board, according to the cabinet note authorized. The Government will decide on the number of Independent members. They will serve on the Board as non-executive members and will attend meetings. They won't be involved in the day-to-day operations of the railways. Their market and field experience will aid Indian Railways' strategic strategy.
