IMO 2022 Exam Pattern


There are two levels in the SOF International Mathematics Olympiad:
 
Level 1: The participants' schools will host the first level of the test during school hours.
 
(i) The IMO level 1 competition is of 60-minute with-
  • 50 objective-type questions for classes 5 through 12
  • 35 multiple-choice questions for classes 1 through 4
(ii) There are four sections in the exam-
  • Section 1: Logical Analysis
  • Section 2: Mathematical Reasoning
  • Section 3: Everyday Math
  • Section 4: Achievers Section
(iii)There are different test questions for each exam date.
 
(iv) The exam is in English language. 
 
(v) The test papers are created using the syllabi of the State Board, ICSE/ISC, and CBSE.
 
(vi) The exam is given during class times.
 
Level 2: Students in classes three through twelve participate in Level 2. The following individuals would qualify for the second round-
  • At the worldwide level: the top 5% of candidates in each class show up for the exam at the first level.
  • At the state and zone level: Top 25 rank holders from each zone and class.
  • At the academic level: A class topper occurs when at least 10 students from a class take the exam and get the required minimum score of 50%.

The Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) is an educational and non-profit organization based in New Delhi, India. It organizes six Olympiads annually, including-
  • International English Olympiad (IEO)
  • International  Commerce Olympiad (ICO)
  • International  general knowedge Olympiad (IGKO)
  • National Cyber Olympiad (NCO)
  • National Science Olympiad (NSO)
The purpose of conducting numerous Olympiad exams is to enhance students' knowledge of mathematics, physics, English, general knowledge, thinking skills, and fundamental computer skills.
 

What is the significance of the IMO exam?

  • The International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) is a school-level competition where students in grades 1 through 12 compete against one another to demonstrate their mastery of mathematics.
  • It helps pupils recognize and develop their mathematical creativity.

Who is eligible to take the second-level IMO test?

In each subject, the top five percent of students who can take the 1st Level exam are:
  • Top 25 zone and class rank holders
  • Top scorers from each participating school
  • Students have at least 10 IMO exam takers and 50% qualifying marks.
  • If they register section-by-section, the top students will be admitted to the second-level IMO test regardless of section.
  • Students in grades 3 to 12 are the only ones who can take the second-level exam.

Is it possible for a student to register on their own for the IMO exam?

Pupils can register independently through the official website if their school is unable to participate. However, the SOF strongly encourages schools to register with the foundation to admit students for Olympiad testing. Students can immediately get in touch with SOF by phone or email to express their interest in competing in the International Mathematics Olympiad.

The SOF will keep an eye on these students while they register for the IMO exams.

Does the exam take place in English?

Yes, only English will be used to administer the test.
