(b) Discover the material culture produced by people in moderately stable settlements.

(c) Appreciate approaches for examining these things.
  Chapter 4: Kingdoms, Kings and an Early Republic (a) Understand the distinct life in cities.

(b) Discover the archaeological facts of urban centres.

(c) Realize how this is used to rebuild procedures such as craft production.
  Chapter 5: New Questions and Ideas (a) Understand that diverse growths that were taking place in multiple areas of the subcontinent simultaneously.

(b) Establish simple approaches of textual study.

(c) Highlight the characteristics of archaeological study already developed.
  Chapter 6: Ashoka, The Emperor Who Gave Up War (a) Establish the notion of the state and its varieties.

(b) Recognize the use of textual resources in this context.
  Chapter 7: Vital Villages, Thriving Towns (a) Sketch the basic doctrines of these systems of ideas, and the background in which they are grown and flourished.

(b) Establish citations from resources associated with these customs.
  Chapter 8: Traders, Kings and Pilgrims (a) Establish the notion of empire.

(b) Demonstrate how inscriptions are used as sources.
  Chapter 9: New Empires and Kingdoms (a) Show the diversity of early urban centres – coastal towns, capitals, religious centres.

(b) Exemplify the use of archaeological stuffs including coins, sculpture, as well as textual sources to reconstruct social and economic histories.
  Chapter 10: Buildings, Paintings and Books (a) Establish the thought of diverse situations of contact between remote lands, and the motivating forces (including conquest).

(b) Examine the implications of journeys within the subcontinent.

(c) Exemplify the use of textual and visual material for rebuilding the histories of such contacts.
