The Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) organizes the National Science Olympiad exam each year to encourage students. Moreover, it aims at building a deeper understanding of scientific information. It will ultimately promote their logical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. The NSO test is open to all students from classes 1-12.

Exam dates for NSO 2022-2023
The Sceince Olympiad includes questions on general science, particular subjects, such as biology, physics, chemistry, and astronomy, and current events. All these questions are put in the question papers to evaluate students' performance based on their understanding of science. The questions are also made according to the level of understanding of students and their classes.
Level 1 and Level 2 are the tiers for the NSO exam. Both Level 1 and Level 2 are for students in Classes 1-12. However, students of Class 1 can only participate till level 1. Only Students in classes 3-12 can move on to level 2. Candidates who qualify for level 1 can take part in Level 2 (Classes 3-12).

The NSO exam will take place on three dates in the months of October, November, and December. The SOF has released the tentative calendar for the NSO exam. You can see the key dates below.

NSO Exam Levels and Exam Patterns
NSO tests are divided into two levels.
- Level 1
- Level 2
Students who qualify level 1 exam can take part in the second level. Each participant will get an NSO certificate. However, students who score an international rank get cash prizes, trophies, and scholarships. The level two examination is extremely difficult. Therefore, once you qualify for the level 1 exam, stick on to your preparation to appear in Level 2.
NSO Level 1 Exam Specifications
The first level of the NSO exam takes place in registered schools with SOF. Any school can register itself to become an examination center. Moreover, there is no fee for becoming an examination center. Students should prepare well for the examination and those who qualify the level 1 and take part in level 2. Certificates are awarded to all candidates even if the student does not qualify for the exam.
The level one question paper revolves around the practice papers or workbook. Students who stick to a strict schedule may clear the exam with flying colors.
NSO Level 2 Exam Specifications
Candidates who qualify the level 1 of the National Science Olympiad (NSO) can move on to the second level. The difference between the two levels is only in the type of questions and their difficulty.
The level two exam is more difficult than level 1 and covers the most important concepts of science subject. This demands students to study very hard and learn the topics by heart. The dates for NSO level 2 have also been released.

The number of advanced-level questions in higher classes is few. However, they vary in difficulty. The markings for each question are also different.
Higher-order thinking questions (HOTs) are more likely to carry greater weight. For this reason, candidates should attempt all the questions.
