Bank PO Eligibility 

A Probationary Officer (PO) is an Assistant Manager of Scale I in a bank. He is a Junior Manager of Grade I scale and hence also called Scale I Officer. After the selection, Probationary Officer has to go through an intensive training program at the Institute of Banking Management followed by a probation period of  2 years. The official notifications released by the conducting bodies contain detailed eligibility criteria for the post of Probationary Officer. Interested candidates should ensure that they meet all the criteria and have relevant documents to support the same. The broad paraments for eligibility are:

  1. Nationality 
  2. Age limit 
  3. Educational Qualification 
  4. Number Of Attempts 

Bank PO Eligibility: Nationality 

A candidate must be :
  • A Citizen of India 
  • A Subject of Nepal 
  • A Subject of Bhutan 
  • A Tibetan Refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, to permanently settle in India 
  • A person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam to permanently settle in India.

Bank PO Eligibility: Age Limit 

The age limit for various banks is discussed below. A candidate can only apply for these exams is he/she is above 21 years of age. The age limit as per various exams is given below:

SBI PO  Minimum: 21 years Maximum: 30 years
IBPS PO  Minimum: 21 years Maximum: 30 years
IBPS RRB PO  Minimum: 21 years Maximum: 40 years

There are various relaxations in age limit, the relaxations follow a general set of rules. They are mentioned below:

Other Backward Classes (OBC Non-Creamy Layer) 3 years
Persons with Disabilities (PWD) 10 years
Ex-Servicemen (Army personnel) 5 years

Persons with Domicile of Jammu &Kashmir during the period of 1-1-1980 to 31-12-1989 5 years
Persons affected by 1984 riots 5 years
Retrenched from service(for MP state Only) 5 years
 

Bank PO Eligibility: Educational Qualification

The eligibility criteria for the Bank PO exams is as basic as a graduation degree (BA, BCom, BSc, B.Tech or as such) in any discipline from a recognized university. The candidate should also possess the relevant documents to validate the same. The exam vise eligibility is covered below:

SBI PO  Candidates must hold a Graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification
IBPS PO  Candidates must hold a Graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification
IBPS RRB PO  Bachelor's degree in any discipline.

Candidates should note that they should at least have 50% marks in graduation. They should also have all the relevant and valid documents to prove the same.

Bank PO Eligibility: Number of Attempts 

There is no bar on the number of attempts in any of these exams. If a candidate is allowed to appear as per the age limit he can appear any number of times.
 

Bank PO Exam Pattern

The organising body determines the bank PO exam format for each bank exam. The Bank PO exam pattern is subject to change, and the organising authority retains the right to do so at its leisure.
The majority of banks use the following procedures as part of their normal exam pattern when hiring bank officers (bank POs):
  1. Preliminary Examination
  2. Mains Examination
  3. Interview
  4. Group Discussion (only SBI PO)
