The preliminary exam consists of one paper of 100 marks divided into three sections.
The IBPS PO Prelims syllabus covers the following subjects:

The new exam pattern adopted in 2019 has included a few topics to each subject that were previously not part of the IBPS PO syllabus.

The IBPS PO Mains syllabus covers topics that are comparable to those covered in the preliminary exam, but the level of difficulty of the questions is higher.

IBPS PO Syllabus of Descriptive Test

The Descriptive section of the IBPS PO Syllabus will comprise 2 parts: essay writing and letter writing. The applicants are expected to attain proficiency in letter writing and essay writing on a computer. They will have to attempt this section by typing on the computer.

IBPS PO Exam Pattern for Mains

  • Introduction of Descriptive Paper: Similar to the SBI PO Exam, the IBPS Mains Examination now includes a descriptive paper that will assess applicants' writing abilities. Candidates will be required to prepare an essay and a letter that will each be worth 25 marks and need to be finished in 30 minutes.
  • The total amount of time given for each section has also been altered.
  • There won't be a separate paper for computer applications. This subject, which combines reasoning and computer aptitude, consists of 45 questions worth a total of 60 marks.
  • Additionally, the total time allocated for the IBPS PO 2022 Mains Objective Exam has increased from 140 minutes to 180 minutes, with an additional 30 minutes for the descriptive exam. IBPS PO Mains takes 3 hours 30 minutes to complete in total.

Each candidate will be required to obtain a minimum score in each test  (Pre and Mains) of the Online Main examination and also a minimum total score to be considered to be shortlisted for the interview. Before the completion of the interview process, scores obtained in the online Main examination will not be shared with the candidates shortlisted for the interview. A candidate should qualify both in the Online Main Exam and interview and be sufficiently high to be considered for the final appointment. Thus,  the final selection is made on the marks scored by the candidate in the IBPS PO Mains Exam and Interview (Mains+ Interview).
