January, being the first month of the year, has a number of notable dates to note. On January 15, Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa succeeded the last British Commander-in-Chief of India as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, and the day became known as Indian Army Day. The 27th of January is observed as International Holocaust Remembrance Day, commemorating the horror of the Holocaust during World War II.
