RRB ALP Eligibility Criteria: Nationality
A candidate must be either:
- a citizen of India,
- A subject of Nepal,
- A subject of Bhutan,
- Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India,
- a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

| Candidates who are serving Group 'C' and Erstwhile Group 'D' Railway Staff, Casual Labour and Substitutes in Railways who have put in a minimum of 3 years’ service (continuous or in broken spells) | UR- 40 Years OBC- 43 Years SC/ST- 45 Years |
| Candidates who are working in Quasi-Administrative offices of the Railway organization such as Railway Canteens, Co-operative Societies and Institutes | Up to the length of service rendered (or) 5 Years, whichever is lower. |
