Full Form of SI in police

A sub-inspector (SI) is usually in command of a small number of police (there are senior constables equivalent to corporals who command police outposts). This is the lowest level official and usually the first investigator who can be prosecuted in court under the Indian police rules and regulations. The officers under them cannot prosecute, but only investigate cases on their behalf.

They can become station attendants in some states like Kerala. Assistant Inspectors are ranked above Police Assistant Inspectors (ASI) and below Inspectors. Most sub-inspectors are employed directly by the police and have better educational qualifications than lower-level officers. Specialized units such as the Central Armed Police Force, the State Armed Reserve Police, and armed battalions share the same rank, but these officers typically do not have investigative powers. Other Indian law enforcement agencies also have specialized non-investigators, such as Sub-Inspector and Sub-Inspector (Power Transfer). The Deputy Inspector's rank insignia is two stars (a five-pointed star) and a red and blue striped band at the outer edge of her shoulder strap. It resembles the Indian Army's Subedar insignia. The Sub-Inspector has a (pentagram) star and a red and blue striped band on the outside edge of the shoulder strap, similar to the Naib Subedar insignia of the Indian Army. The Chief Deputy Inspector and Additional Deputy Inspector have the same insignia. For the post of Deputy Inspector, the Personnel Selection Committee (SSC) has been selected by various Central Armed Police Forces such as the BSF, CRPF, and other Central Armed Police Forces. Recruit suitable candidates nationwide. The deputy inspectors of the Central Armed Police Force and State Police Force are similar in size and salary level. However, the Indian Armed Forces i.e. Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force Subedar, and Junior Junior Warrant Officers have different salary grades and payment privileges superior to Central Armed Police or State Police.
