University Grants Commission (UGC) is debating a plan to combine the three nation's most important admission tests, the NEET, JEE Main, and CUET. If you are into preparation and dream to clear the exam on your first attempt then check our CUET 2023 course online
The University Grants Commission (UGC) is preparing to set up an expert group to look into the possibilities to integrate the national-level engineering and medical admission exams with the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) starting in the next academic year.
Bringing JEE (Main) and NEET within the greater purview of CUET, according to UGC chairperson M Jagadesh Kumar, will lessen the load on students, and the plan is in line with the National Education Policy, 2020.

NEET is the entrance exam for all undergraduate medical programs, while JEE (Main) is the entrance exam for admission to the nation's top engineering institutions.

Reason for Merging NEET, JEET into CUET UG Exam

One of the most popular admission tests in the nation is the Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate. Over 1 million people have applied to take the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), which was introduced this year. A proposal to include the engineering and medical entrance examinations into the Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate is currently being developed by UGC (CUET-UG). According to UGC Chairperson M. Jagadesh Kumar, students would be able to take the proposed test once and be eligible for and explore several fields of study rather than taking the four subjects—Math, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology—in three separate entrance exams.

The main goal of combining the admission tests is to spare students from the pressure of taking several exams for the same courses. The grades in Math, Physics, and Chemistry of all individuals who wish to pursue engineering and medical can be utilised as a ranking list. If students don't get into Engineering or Medical, they will still be able to attend other programmes through CUET using the same scores in math, physics, chemistry, biology, and other subjects. They are thus waiting for the requirement that students show up for a single exam. Lets us check the exam pattern of each exam.

What could be the Syllabus for Combined Exam?

As the proposal has been sent for the merging of the JEE and NEET examinations in CUET and it is planned to be implemented in the next year. As in NEP 2020, one nation on entrance exam was introduced so it would be proven as one of the initiatives to resume the plan. Let's check the syllabus of the combined examination.

Exam Pattern

Conducting Body National Testing Agency (NTA)
CUET Full Form Central University Entrance Test (CUET)
Exam Name CUET 2022
Mode of Exam Computer Based Test-CBT
Test Pattern Objective type with Multiple Choice Questions
Medium of Language 13 Languages
Maximum Number of Tests

9 Tests

(2 Languages, 6 Domain Specific Subjects, 1 General Test OR 3 Languages, 5 Domain Specific Subjects, 1 General Test)

Number of Sections Four
Marking Scheme 1 mark for the correct answer

The NTA will be given instructions to closely adhere to the class 12 syllabus for all disciplines, including the courses connected to JEE and NEET, and the new and redefined CUET-UG would also follow the NCERT syllabus. As a result, Kumar claimed, pupils will perform better and experience less stress. The coaching culture has existed in our nation for many years, especially as a result of NEET and JEE, Kumar noted. However, he added that "as long as we make sure that we stick to the syllabus that the students have studied, over time students will come to know that if they can study well for their board examinations and focus on becoming a good learner, then that should help them in doing well in all of their other academic endeavours."

How will it benefit the students?

Students will benefit from this suggestion's easiness. Students will only need to show up for one test (CUET). Students will utilise their CUET scores to get admission to a variety of fields.
Students can enrol in medical, engineering, mathematics, the arts, business administration, and other programmes using their CUTE scores. By doing this, the issue of overlap in significant national entrance examinations will be resolved. Students won't have to deal with scheduling conflicts like exam locations and dates.

Final Thoughts

Students should be happy with the decision of the UGC as it would lessen the burden on the students. JEE needs mathematics, physics, and chemistry while NEET just requires biology and physics. These courses are already available in CUET. Therefore, using CUET results for admission won't be a problem for medical and engineering universities. However, it requires a lot of planning to implement the merger.

When will the UGC hold the CUET-UG for the NEET and JEE Entrance exams?

The precise date is not disclosed by the University Grants Commission. The idea to combine NEET and JEE into CUET UG is still in its infancy. For more updates, students can bookmark this website.
