The Institute began with only 40 gentlemen cadets in year 1932 and today over 400 cadets are being trained at Indian Military Academy.

National Defence Academy, NDA is a national level exam that recruits candidates in all the three wings of defence, namely, Army, Navy and Air force. It is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) twice every year.
• Eligibility Requirements to Apply for NDA- The candidate must be a citizen of India, candidate need to be unmarried and if he gets selected he could not get married during his training tenure, candidates wishing to join the army wing need to have completed their class 12th or equivalent examination from a recognised Institute whereas candidates who wish to join the air force and navy need to have passed class 12th with Physics and Mathematics from a recognised Institute, candidates appearing in class 12th final exam are also eligible to apply and candidates between 16.5 to 19 years of age are only allowed to apply.
• Paper Pattern- The NDA paper is divided in into two phases, which are, written and SSB interview. The written exam is conducted offline. The paper consists mainly of two sections Mathematics and General Ability. Each section is provided two and half hours duration for completion. For the convenience of students the paper is set in both English and Hindi language. The paper might seem a bit lengthy as the whole paper is for 900 marks, with Mathematics consisting 300 marks and General Ability 600 marks.
• CDSE
Combined Defence Services Exam, CDSE is conducted twice every year by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The CDS exam happens in two phases namely, written and SSB interview. Candidates can apply online for the exam on the official website of UPSC. The age of the candidate applying should be between 19 to 24 years. The mode of this exam is offline.
• Technical Graduate Course
Candidates in their final year of BE/B.Techof specific streams can apply for IMA through this course. The age for the candidates applying through this should be between 19 to 25 years.
Salary and Perks
The IMA offers several perks to it’s cadets and officers for their hard work and devotion. Cadets during their training get a stipend of ₹21,000 per month.The salary of officers vary as per their posts. The starting salary is around ₹56,100 per monthfor officers at the posts of a Lieutenant and it reachesupto ₹2,25,000 per month for the officers at the post of Lieutenant General. The officers are also entitled to dearness allowance, transport allowance, uniform allowance, children Education allowance, etc. They also get pension after their retirements.Salary Structure
