SSC CGL Exam

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) was established in 1975, it is mandated to select staff for various Group B and Group C posts that come under various ministries in Government of India .SSC also recruits for non-ministerial posts. Each year SSC conducts pan India exams like SSC CGL, SSC CHSL, SSC JE, SSC GD, SSC CPO, SSC MTS and SSC Stenographer exam. Each year lacks of candidates appear for above mentioned exams, in a hope to secure a government job under Government of India. In this space we will cover the most sought after exam conducted by SSC – SSC Combined Graduate Level Exam or SSC CGL Exam.

Staff Services commission released notification for SSC Combined Graduate Level exam on 29th December 2020. As per our estimate approximately 30 lakh candidates filled the SSC CGL application form. The SSC CGL exam for the year 2020-21 has started from 13 th August 2021 and will be conducted till 24 th August 2021. There are total of 7035 vacancies for the year 2020-21.

 

What Is SSC CGL Exam?

This is a national level exam conducted by SSC each year. Through this exam candidates are recruited for Non Gaza teed Group B and Group C posts in varies Ministries and departments. Each year around 15 lack candidates appear for this exam. The candidates must have passed graduation in order to be eligible for this exam. The SSC CGL Exam is conducted in four stages, namely- Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 2 and Tier 4.

SSC CGL Exam Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for the exam is mentioned in the official notification. Candidates must ensure they meet all the criteria before they apply for the exam. The SSC CGL Exam Eligibility criteria is as follows:

SSC CGL Exam Pattern

There are 4 stages in this exam. The examination consist of two Computer Based Examination (Tier –I and Tier - II) and a descriptive paper as Tier- III and in some pots candidates may have to appear for a skill test.

 

SSC CGL Tier I Exam Pattern

The first phase of the SSC CGL exam is the online exam. Where candidates will have to secure marks more than a certain cutoff, in order to be eligible for other phases of the exam.

  1. Questions in Tier –I are objective type
  2. Each question carries 2 mark.
  3. Stipulated time for completion of Tier –I is one hour.
  4. SSC CGL Tier –I one is a bilingual exam, conducted in Hindi and English.
  5. In Tier-I, there will be negative marking of 0.50 for each wrong answer.

SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam Pattern

This is the 2 nd phase of the SSC CGL exam and is conducted in online mode too. Here candidates will have to secure marks more than a certain cutoff, in order to be eligible for Descriptive test.

  1. Questions in Tier –II are objective type
  2. Each question carries 1 mark.
  3. Stipulated time for completion of Tier –II is two hours.
  4. SSC CGL Tier –II one is a bilingual exam, conducted in Hindi and English.
  5. In Tier-II, there will be negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer in Paper-II (English Language and Comprehension) and of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I, Paper-III and Paper-IV.

SSC CGL Descriptive Paper

Only those candidates who are able to clear the cut off of Tier 2 will appear for this stage. In this paper the descriptive skills of candidates are tested. Candidates will have to opt to write either in Hindi or English. The pattern of the exam is as follows:

SSC CGL Exam Selection Process 2020-21

SSC CGL selection process starts with the release of notification. The official SSC CGL notification contains information about the number of vacancies, exam dates, eligibility criteria, exam pattern, syllabus, and other important information.

SSC CGL Exam Application

Interested candidates who meet all the eligibility criteria are required to apply online for the examination. The application process is open for a specific time.  The application fee for all candidates is Rs 100 and women/SC/ST/ex-servicemen candidates are exempted from payment of the fee.

SSC CGL Admit Card

Admit card for SSC CGL exam is released a month or so before the exam.  Candidates who are considered eligible by SSC are given admit card for the examination. The admit cards are available online and can be downloaded from the official website of SSC.

 

SSC CGL Tier –I

All the candidates with valid admit cards can appear for this Stage. This is a computer-based exam, where 4 sections are tested for 200 marks in total. The candidates who are successful in this stage are called for Tier –II of the exam.

SSC CGL Tier –II Exam

This is also a computer based stage, candidates who have cleared the Tier –I of the exam are eligible to appear of this stage. There are a total of 4 papers in this stage

SSC Descriptive Test Or Tier –III

This is the final stage of examination. The total marks allotted to this stage are 100. Candidates have to write an essay in either Hindi or English.

SSC CGL Final Result

The final result is based on the overall performance in Tier II and Tier III. Generally the final result is released in the official web site of SSC. The final result is in form of a merit list and the candidates can check there score by login in to the SSC website.  The skill test applicable for few posts does not have any weightage in the final result but the candidates must pass this stage or they are rejected.
