Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the constitution of the second National Judicial Pay Commission has been approved for the subordinate judiciary in the country on November 10, 2007. Former judge of the Supreme Court Justice (Retd) J.P. Venkatarama Reddy will be its president and R. Basant, former judge of the Kerala High Court will be a member of this commission. This commission will preferably submit its recommendations to the State Governments within a period of 18 months. This commission will examine the existing stages of the wages and service conditions of the judicial officers of the States and Union Territories.       The purpose of this commission is to represent the principles of governing the pay scales and other emoluments of judicial officers related to the subordinate judiciary in the country. This commission will review the working of the system, salary, various allowances and non-cash benefits received by the judicial officers and it will give them suggestions for rationalization and simplification. The purpose of this commission is to make uniform pay and salary and service conditions of judicial officers across the country .
