The additional draft of the National Register of Citizen of Assam has finally released today. The draft has been released by the Assam government. The additional list consists of the names of people who were included in the final draft published on July 2018 but were later found to be ineligible. This list consisting of 1,02,462 names, excluded from the NRC. Meanwhile, the names of other citizens remain the same. The list does not mention the results of the disposal of claims objections.

What exactly NRC is?

The NRC is meant to identify the original residents of the north-eastern state and check illegal migration. It includes names of all genuine Indian Citizens. The first list was prepared in 1951.

The persons whose names appear in the NRC list of 1951, and in any of the electoral Rolls up to March 24, 1971, are eligible to get registered in the NRC.

How to identify someone as ‘ineligible’?

During the verification process, authorities found many people to be ineligible to be included in it. If a person is Doubtful voters, declared foreigners, people who failed to prove family-tree claims or having cases pending at the foreigner’s tribunal, then he becomes ineligible for NRC.

Rectification of errors

D- Voters and people who are presently attending the hearing will be excluded from the NRC. Those people, whose names are mentioned in the list, will be notified through the Post. Any mistakes in the draft can be rectified at the NRC Seva Kendra.

Chance to get include in NRC list’s name 

PrateekHajela, the state coordinator, NRC, Assam, quoted those people who find their names mentioned in the additional list, have the chance to make claims. There is no need to be panic and disappointed as people have the chance to get their names included in the final NRC if they are able to prove their eligibility.

The submission of claim and its disposal by the Disposing officer by a hearing will happen together. The venue of Claim submission cum hearing will be notified by the LOI.
