Manipur filmmaker Aribam Shyam Sharma to return Padma Shri:
In a bid to protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Manipur-based filmmaker and music composer Aribam Syam Sharma has decided to return his 2006 Padma Shri award. His decision comes less than a week after families of around 855 martyrs of the anti-foreigners Assam Agitation of 1979-85 returned the citation that the Sarbananda Sonowal government had given them in 2016. 

Rishi Shukla has been appointed as CBI director:
Rishi, currently serving as the chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Police Housing Corporation. He has been appointed in place of Alok Verma, Who was removed from the post of CBI Director. Rishi Kumar Shukla was appointed as 28th Director General of Police (DGP) of Madhya Pradesh on June 30, 2016. He was shifted to the post of Police Housing Corporation chief last week. 

Venezuela crisis:
Venezuela's political crisis amid growing efforts by the opposition to unseat the socialist president, Nicolás Maduro. The South American country has been caught in a downward situation for years with growing political discontent further fuelled by skyrocketing hyperinflation, power cuts and shortages of food and medicines. 

Fiscal Deficits better than Estimates:
The union government expects fiscal deficit to be better than estimated as they close the current financial year with a fiscal deficit of 3.2% of GDP with the figure expecting to be dip more to 3.1% by 2019-2020. Economic affairs secretary S C Garg had said that GDP for 2019-20 was now expected to be around Rs 225 lakh crore, which will help the government to show a lower deficit.
