Indian Teacher Shortlisted for the Global Teacher Prize 2019
Former Miss India and Wife of Bollywood Actor Paresh Rawal, Swaroop Rawal, has been selected among the top 10 finalists for the Global Teacher Prize 2019. Rawal, who teaches at Lavad Primary School in Gujarat, was shortlisted from around 10,000 nominations and applications across 179 countries for the annual prize, to be announced at the Global Education and Skills Forum (GESF) in Dubai next month.
Swaroop Rawal is known for her use of unique teaching methods to reach out to children across different segments of society in India. According to the Forum, her teaching has reached children on the streets, in rural communities, economically and socially deprived children, as well as elite school children. She will now be competing with teachers from Australia, Japan, UK, US, Georgia, Netherlands, Brazil, Argentina and Kenya.
NITI Aayog hosted Conference on "The Future of Indian Banking"
NITI Aayog co-hosted a conference on “The Future of Indian Banking” on February 22, 2019, with the Foundation for Economic Growth and Welfare (EGROW Foundation).
Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog, inaugurated the event. More than 200 domestic and international participants attended this program, which included policy
makers, academicians, researchers, professionals, and students from various banks, universities and institutes.
The purpose of this conference is to increase and expand the discourse on the banking sector in India and to help in developing insights to inform the continued development
of the Indian banking sector to support the growing credit requirements of the Indian economy. The banking industry has to be continuously prepared for fraud and rising
cybersecurity risks. There is a need for more research on banking sector issues, specific to the Indian context.
ET Global Business Summit 2019 in New Delhi
The fifth edition of the two-day ET Global Business Summit started in New Delhi on Friday. PM Narendra Modi, Railway and Coal Minister Piyush Goyal, Commerce Minister
Suresh Prabhu and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will be speaking in this program.

PM Modi said, "Whatever happened in the past is not in our hands, but what is going to happen in the future is in our hands."
"We often mourn by recalling industrial revolutions in the past, but today it is a matter of pride that India is an active contributor in the 4th Industrial Revolution," PM said.
"We have moved away from the A,B,C mentality. A for avoiding, B for burying and C for confusing. A- Instead of Avoiding, we dealt with the issue. B- Instead of Burying it, we
dug it out and C- Communicated to the people. Instead of confusing the system, we showed a solution is possible," the system, we showed a solution is possible," PM said.
"Today, while India prepares to send a man to Mars, it is also ensuring that every Indian has a roof over his head. Today, while India is the fastest growing world economy, it is
also eliminating poverty at the fastest speed," he said.
Ambassadors and high commissioners of Saudi, UAE, Indoensia, Morocco, Czech, Argentinia, Serbia, Maldives and Sweden have attended the PM session. Finance Minister
Arun Jaitley also gave a special address on the inauguration of this two-day event.
Railway Initiates Special Train to Statue of Unity
According to a Press Release, Railways will run a special train from March 04, 2019, for tourists visiting the Statue of Unity – dedicated to India's first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel - in Gujarat, five months after its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The train, which will be run under the government's 'Bharat Darshan' scheme, will have a seven-night and eight-day tour package beginning March 4 from Chandigarh, a statement from the Ministry said.
The journey will also cover pilgrimage sites like Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga near Indore, MP, Shirdi Sai Baba Darshan, Trimbakeshwar in Nashik, Maharashtra, and Ghrishneshwar Jyotirlinga in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The Statue of Unity is situated on the river bank called Sadhu Bet in front of the Narmada Dam in Gujarat. It is the world's tallest statue at a height of 182 metres.
