The Association for Democratic Reforms has released a report on 31 February, 2013 on 31 Chief Ministers of the country. The report states who is the richest chief minister in the country and who has the least amount of money. Also, in this report, it has been mentioned that criminal cases are being filed against how many Chief Ministers.
How many are facing Criminal Cases?
As per the estimation made with the National Election Watch (NEW) of the Association for Democratic Reforms, about 35% of the Chief Ministers of India are facing criminal cases, while 81 percent of the chief ministers are billionaires (crorepati). Both organizations have reached this conclusion by studying the affidavits submitted by the existing Chief Ministers during the assembly elections of the state and union territories across the country. According to the report of the Association for Democratic Reforms, 11 of the 31 Chief Ministers have declared criminal cases against themselves. This is 35% of the total number. Of these, 26% of cases are registered against serious criminal cases like murder, attempt to murder, fraud.
How rich are the Chief Ministers?
Similarly, 25 Chief Ministers, i.e., 81% are millionaires. Two of these Chief Ministers have assets worth more than Rs. 100 crores. The average asset of the Chief Ministers is 16.18 crore rupees. According to the estimation, the country's richest chief minister is Andhra Pradesh's Chandrababu Naidu. Whose declared assets are Rs. 177 crores. Pema Khandu of Arunachal Pradesh is the second richest chief minister. At the same time, the chief minister with the lowest assets is the Manik Sarkar of Tripura as his property is 27 lakh rupees.
