The Supreme Court has further extended the deadline for the mandatory requirement of AADHAAR. The deadline has been extended till the hearing of the matter in the Supreme Court. Unless the Supreme Court Constitution bench gives a decision on the matter, there is no need to link your AADHAAR Number with other documents. No date has been prescribed for this issue by the Supreme Court. 

A Constitutional Bench headed by Chief Justice Deepak Mishra also said that the government can not mandate the requirement of AADHAAR. The Supreme Court's latest judgment came during the hearing of the petition filed by advocate Vrinda Grover, which she had filed for the inadmissibility of the AADHAAR for the passport. 

The last date for linking the AADHAAR from income tax, PAN card, mobile, banking etc. was 31 March 2018. The Apex Court on 23 Feb 2018 extended the date of AADHAAR linking to 31 March 2018.

A former High Court judge and several social activists have challenged the Aadhar scheme in the Supreme Court. The hearing on the Aadhaar case has been going on for the last five years. Chief Justice Deepak Mishra, Justice AM Khanvilkar, Justice DC Chandrachud, Justice AK Sikri and Justice Ashok Bhushan are hearing the case.
