Under the umbrella scheme of Saksham Anganwadi and POSHAN 2.0, the Ministry of Women and Child Development will provide support to around 2,00,000 anganwadis, which will be upgraded to Saksham Anganwadis. Umbrella ICDS – Anganwadi Services, Poshan Abhiyaan, Scheme for Adolescent Girls, and National Creche Scheme are all part of the scheme. "Saksham Anganwadis are next generation anganwadis that have superior infrastructure and audio-visual aids powered by sustainable energy and giving an improved environment for early childhood development," Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in her budget speech.The umbrella scheme received Rs 20,105 crores in the previous financial year.
Upgraded amenities such as smart teaching, smart learning, and crèche facilities will be introduced as part of the programme. The Union Budget allocated a significant amount of money to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan last year, whether in the social sector, energy, government reforms, migrant workers, or agriculture. Important points about Anganwadis :

  • Anganwadis or a type of rural child care centre were started by the Indian government in 1975 as part of the Integrated Child Development Services program to combat child hunger and malnutrition.
  • These are focal point for implementation of all the health, nutrition and early learning initiatives under ICDS.
  • Currently Anganwadis services scheme provide 6 services: Supplementary nutrition, immunisation, health check-up, pre-school non-formal education, nutrition and health education, and referral services. These are performed by The Anganwadi worker (AWW).
