Engaging with your audience. The Social Media Manager Responsibilities Guide clarifies the responsibilities of the Social Media Manager on a monthly, weekly, and daily basis. Previously, the expectations of the Social Media Manager were not thoroughly documented. This document should enhance the organization of the content-sharing process by providing clear timelines and tools for managing DIG’s social media pages. It should be referred to by the Social Media Manager when they take on the role, as well as when they go through the posting process, to ensure no steps are missed.

Daily tasks of the Social Media Manager should include:

❏ Engaging with the Social Media WhatsApp group.

❏ Engaging with organizations on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn by liking and commenting on posts. Refrain from engaging with individuals, unless in a special scenario.

❏ Monitoring the notifications page and engaging back with the audience on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn by liking and responding to their comments. If it is tagged in a post by the audience, like and comment on that post.

❏ Scrolling through the feed and Instagram Discover page maintains awareness of what’s going on in the news. Note: If there is a major event that is drawing a lot of social media attention, pause the queue to respect the moment and ask DIG US when and how to proceed. If commenting on the major event, a post should be crafted in collaboration with the social media manager and DIG US. As a non-affiliated non-profit, DIG does not formally take a stance on political movements, religion, etc. which is challenging in these timeless because often humanist movements are politicized.
The effects of social media are very complex and vary from person to person. Based on our data we found that many people either
experience negative effects or notice them in other people. However, in the time we’ve had to conduct research, we were not able to find direct and clear causation, but we are hoping with more time and further research we can get clearer conclusions. Please feel free to go to: Another interesting thing to look at based on what we found would be to ask participants if they would try to decrease their usage of social media. All of the interviewees said that they wanted to decrease how much they use social media and their phones in general but we failed to ask them if they would. With the knowledge of both positive and negative effects, it would be interesting to see if they would and would give a good insight into how addicted our generation is. To continue with the idea of phone addiction we could look more into why people use certain apps and how specific apps make them feel. Asking questions such as “How does going on Snapchat make you feel: 1-10”. These types of questions could lead to good information that could help us figure out why we are all so addicted to our devices.
This is a very complicated and new subject to be researching so there are so many ideas we can explore and find out about, the ideas are endless! If you have any other ideas for research questions or further study please feel free to let us know! Or even better, you can continue to study this topic as well!
