According to the story, the French districts of Alsace and Lorraine fell into Prussian hands. They received an order from Berlin making it compulsory that German should be taught in Alsace and Lorraine schools. It was at this point that they all realize the very importance of their language. The usual hustle and bustle at school were replaced by the peace of Sunday church. The students’ sincerity was evident by the fact that they all began working so quietly.
