Unit:1 Introduction to Human Rights
Chapter 1:

  • The historical perspective -interrogating the need for human rights (with illustrative examples)
  • Duties and Rights- Respecting the rights of others (Civic and political rights) and (Economic, Social and Cultural Rights)
  • Looking at the Constitution of India
  • The Gandhian Perspective and Contribution of Martin Luthar King

Unit 2: Essential rights for human development

  • Chapter 2: Right to education (with special reference to the girl child)
  • Chapter 3: Right to Health (with special reference to the health of the girl child)
  • Chapter 4: Human rights and HIV AIDS
  • Chapter 5: Right of the disabled and other vulnerable sections
  • Chapter 6: Right to food
  • Chapter 7: Right to Information

NCERT Syllabus for Human rights and Gender Studies: Practical Details

The goal of the project work is to sketch a portfolio or allow students work on a research-based project or undertake a case study is to make students identify their skills, efforts and achievements in one or more areas. It is anticipated that schools offer chances to students to participate, talk about, deliberate and look into contemporary problems on relevant topics. The project will be assessed through a viva voice also which carries 10 marks out 30.

Students are supposed to collect material for the project/ case study/portfolio. It is would be evaluated on the following basis:
  • Presentation: Put in efforts for meaningful material with aesthetic sense.
  • Diverse Content:  A diverse content in audio/ visual media form, references from journals, art work, conference updates, photographs, writing samples, maps, charts, extracts of interview and reading logs etc.
  • Organization of material collected has been presented with cogency and coherence
  • Understanding and good garb on knowledge.
  • Viva Voce
20 marks+ 10 marks = 30 marks
