We may see how far we have come when we compare the present to the time when a man lived like a barbarian. In a same vein, human evolution has been absolutely admirable.
Science is one of the main causes influencing this. It inspires reflection on the wonders of science and how useful it has been to improve our quality of life. Most significantly, science has aided in the growth of a superior civilisation. Only with the aid of science has man been able to make all of his advancements. But it wouldn't be incorrect to suggest that science has two sides to it. It has its own unique set of benefits and drawbacks.

Benefits of Science

It would be an understatement to suggest that science has a great deal of advantages. Science has proven useful in many areas of the globe and its advantages do not only apply to one. The first thing that springs to mind when discussing scientific and engineering advancements is electricity. Through its progress, it has contributed to the world's power. In other words, science deserves all the credit since without it, modern life would not be conceivable. After all, it is difficult to envision a world without computers, medications, televisions, air conditioners, cars, and other modern conveniences. Science has also made significant contributions to the medical area.
It has aided in the treatment of fatal diseases and the accomplishment of difficult surgeries in the past. As a result, science has profoundly altered the globe.

The drawbacks of science

Similar to the proverb "There is no rainbow without rain," science also has flaws. Science is no different from anything else in that it is poisonous in excess. It can wreak enormous amounts of damage if it ends up in the hands of the evil. For instance, nuclear weapons are made using science.
These have the potential to start wars and destroy entire nations. Its contribution to pollution is another negative. Science led to a rise in pollution as the world got more industrialised. Natural resources including water, air, wood, and other resources are now being polluted by all high-scale businesses. Due to the substitution of machines for human work, this industrial boom has consequently led to higher unemployment rates. We can therefore observe that it also has a sizable number of disadvantages. In conclusion, it is safe to argue that science has greatly benefited modern man. But scientific advancements and discoveries have occasionally turned out to be harmful to humanity.

It must therefore be correctly applied in order to benefit humanity as a whole. To protect the world from the dark side of science, we must ensure that these technological advances are used wisely. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam once said that science is a wonderful gift to humanity, and as such, we must live by this statement and be mindful of its application.
