CTET Exam 2023: The Central Board of Secondary Education has successfully conducted CTET 2023 Exam on 20th August 2023. A total of 15,01,719 candidates had registered for CTET Paper 1 and 14,02,184 candidates had registered for CTET Paper II.

As per the estimates about 80% of the candidates appeared for the exam. This was the 17th edition of CTET. Read this article to know all about CTET 2023.

CTET 2023

As per the provisions of the Right To Education Act 2009, there was to be a minimum qualification for teachers across the country.  The National Council for Teachers Education via a notification dated 2009, initiated the process of Central Teacher's Eligibility. Since 2010 the exam is conducted twice a year by Central Education Board for Secondary Education. The ultimate purpose of the CTET exam is:

  1. To bring national standards and benchmarks of teacher quality.
  2. To induce teacher education institutions and students from these institutions to further improve their performance standards.
  3. Send a positive signal to all stakeholders and lay emphasis on teachers' training.

Through the CTET certificate, candidates become eligible to take up teaching roles in Classes 1 to 8. The exams ensure a set benchmark, fair analysis of competency and knowledge for prospective hiring institutions. The exam is conducted into two sessions – Paper 1 and Paper 2.The details are as follows:

CTET Notification 2023

The CBSE has released the official notification for CTET 2022. The notification has been released on 27 April 2023 and the application process has started from 27 April 2023. The last date to apply is 26 May 2023.

CTET Eligibility 2023

The Eligibility Criteria are different for selecting candidates for the post of teacher for Classes 1 to 5 and for Classes 6 to 8.  The details on eligibility is mentioned in a table-wise format below:
 

Primary Teacher

  1. Should have passed 10+2 with a minimum of 45 percent aggregate marks
  2. Should complete the prescribed teacher training programs/teacher education course

 

Upper Primary

  1. Should have passed 10+2 with a minimum of 45 percent aggregate marks.
  2. Should complete the prescribed teacher training programmes/teacher education course

 

 

CTET Exam Process 2023

The CTET selection process includes the following steps:
CTET Application

  1. Fill CTET application form
  2. Fill the application form on the official website. Pay the fee online in time. The fee is Rs 1,000 for General and OBC categories and Rs 500 for Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Differently Abled Person.

Candidates can download CTET 2022 admit card from the official website of CBSE. The admit card is available in soft copy. Candidates are needed to take a printout of the admit card and carry it with them to the exam centre.

CTET exam

The exam is conducted in two and a half hours duration.
There are two papers-

Paper 1

For Classes 1 to 5

Paper 2

For Classes 5 to 8

 
CTET Exam Pattern

  1. There will be 150 MCQs in each paper.
  2. For Paper-I, the difficulty level will be of the secondary stage.
  3. Paper-II, the difficulty level will be of senior secondary stage.
  4. CTET Paper-1 is divided into 5 sections: Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I & II, Mathematics, and Environmental Science.
  5. TET Paper-2 is divided into 4 sections: Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I & II, Mathematics/Science or Social Studies. There will be a choice between Maths/Science and Social Studies.
  6. Each Correct answer will be awarded 1 mark. There is no negative marking in the exam.

Is CTET exam held twice a year?

  • Yes, CTET is held twice a year. Once in July and another time in December. 

Is CTET exam required for PGT?

No, CTET exam is not required for PGT. CTET is only conducted for TGT and PRT levels. Candidates aspiring for PGT posts should check for the vacancies released by the respective authority and check their mentioned eligibility and selection process

What is the passing mark for CTET?

To clear the CTET exam you must possess 60% marks. Candidates who does not get the specified marks can apparel for the CTET exam again in the next session. However, any marks less than 60% will be considered not qualified.

Is the CTET exam conducted online?

 Yes, as per the official notification the CTET exam will be conducted online from now onwards. 

What is the upper age limit to appear for the CTET exam?

There is no upper age limit to take the CTET exam. Candidates above 18 years of age can apply for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test.

Is CTET Certificate valid for a lifetime?

 Yes; the CTET eligibility certificate was valid for a period of seven years starting from the date of declaration of result. However, now the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and CBSE as well has officially extended the CTET passing certificate validity to lifetime.
