About Exam:
SSC CGL is a national-level exam conducted by Staff Selection Commission (SSC) to shortlist candidates for Group-B and -C posts in various ministries/departments/organisations of the Government of India. Every year, about 30 lakh candidates fill the SSC CGL application form and about 15 lakh aspirants appear for the exam
The Staff Selection Commission conducts the exam in four stages called tiers. The first two tiers of the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam are conducted in online mode. The next two tiers of the exam are held in offline mode
Exam Mode: Tier-I: Online ,Tier-II: Online, Tier-III: Offline, Tier-IV: Computer proficiency test/skill test/document verification
Exam Duration: Tier-I: 60 minutes, Tier-II: 120 minutes for each paper, Tier-III: 60 minutes
Essential Educational Qualifications: Candidates should complete graduation from a recognised university
Exam Pattern:
SSC CGL Tier-I exam contains total 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) of 200 marks. Candidates need to complete the exam in online mode in a duration of 60 minutes (one hour)

Tier-II : SSC CGL tier-II exam consists of four papers. Each paper consists of MCQs that candidates need to attempt in online mode. Candidates need to attempt each paper in a duration of 120 minutes (two hours)

Tier-III: SSC CGL tier-III is a subjective/descriptive paper in English or Hindi language. Candidates need to attempt the paper in pen-and-paper mode in 60 minutes duration

Tier-IV:
SSC CGL tier-IV exam is basically a skill test. The official website informs, “Computer Proficiency Test/Skill Test (wherever applicable)/Document Verification will be conducted as per the provisions of the notice of examination.”
The skill test conducted by the commission is of two types as mentioned below:
SSC CGL Data Entry Skill Test (DEST)
This test is conducted for candidates who apply for the post of Tax Assistants (Central Excise & Income Tax). As part of the test, all candidates need to type at 8,000 (eight thousand) Key Depression per hour on computer. The skill test will be conducted for a passage of about 2,000 key depressions for a duration of 15 minutes. The test is of qualifying nature.
SSC CGL Computer Proficiency Test (CPT)
This test is conducted for candidates who apply for the following posts:
- Assistant Section Officer in CSS MEA and AFHQ
- Assistant in Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs
- Assistant (GSI) in the Ministry of Mines
- Inspector (Central Excise)
- Inspector (Preventive Officer)
- Inspector (Examiner) in CBEC
The test is of qualifying nature and consists of three modules:
- Word Processing
- Spread Sheet
- Generation of Slides
